About Kokukai Jujitsu
Kobukai Jujitsu is a Traditional Japanese Jujitsu and Grappling Martial Art that teaches modern self-defense techniques to use in unarmed combat against a variety of attacks, opponents and weapons. The classes are "traditional" because they follow the guidelines and history of traditional martial arts training by adhering to beliefs and a way of training that is sometimes lost in modern martial arts schools. Beliefs such as respect for your teacher and fellow students, respect and honor for those who have come before you, and most importantly the development and cultivation of the warrior spirit.
Kobukai Jujitsu is an extremely effective self defense and combat jujitsu style. Though the techniques taught in Kobukai Jujitsu are taught for use in street combat, the techniques can also be used for Mixed Martial Arts and Grappling Competitions. The main difference(s) between Kobukai Jujitsu and other jiu-jitsu styles such as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is that Kobukai Jujitsu is always focusing on a real combat confrontation compared to a sport confrontation. Kobukai Ju-Jitsu also divides the system into 4 main groups: Striking Defense Techniques, Standing Defense Techniques, Ground Fighting Defense and Weapons Defense. Many of the core techniques can be applied to various groups and the development of the basics and core techniques is very important.
Benefits of Training Kobukai Jujitsu
Kobukai Jujitsu History
The Kobukai Jujitsu Dojo was founded in 1993 by Sensei St. Hilaire and Sensei Carvalko. Kobukai Ju-Jitsu is a self defense school which practices a system made of the most effective techniques from several different Japanese Jujitsu and Aikijutsu styles. Our waza includes nage waza, atemi waza, shime waza, kansetsu waza, ne waza, small weapon defense, and (at yudansha levels) hanbojutsu, tantojutsu, kenjutsu, and various traditional healing arts.
We use the traditional menkyo system of ranking for yudansha, but do also simultaneously award dan-i ranks (because they are recognized by many martial arts). We are a traditionally run dojo that follows traditional martial etiquette. We train as a close knit group, and thus our doors are not simply open to anyone. We want to get to know you first. Only people of good character who wish to train hard and really learn the meaning of bujutsu train at Kobukai. We are only interested in the actual self defense application of Jujitsu. All techniques are learned in a cooperative manner with a training partner, and then used in unrehearsed self defense and in-class contest.
